Privacy Policy

Introduction

At Sleep Hacker, we respect your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, where it's kept, how it's used, and how to delete it. It covers this website and the SleepHacker app, which share the same community forum.

Your Account

When you create an account in the SleepHacker app, we store your name, email address and a securely hashed version of your password on our servers, so you can sign in on any of your devices. Your password itself is never stored.

If you sign in with Apple or Google instead, we receive the name and email address you choose to share with them, and an ID that links your Apple or Google account to SleepHacker. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, we only ever see the private address Apple gives us. For Sign in with Apple, we also keep a token that lets us cancel SleepHacker's access when you delete your account.

We use your email address to sign you in, to send you a welcome email when you join, and to send a password reset code when you ask for one. We don't send marketing emails.

Synced Across Your Devices

So your data follows you, the following is saved to your account on our servers and kept up to date on every device you sign in on:

• Dream journal entries
• Sleep Coach conversations
• Your bedtime and wake-up times
• Details of your sleep recordings: when each one started and ended, and when sounds were detected, with labels such as "likely snoring". The audio itself is never uploaded (see below).
• The list of community members you've blocked

We use this data only to provide these features to you. We never sell it, share it for advertising, or use it to track you.

Stays On Your Device

• The audio from sleep recordings. Sounds are analysed on your iPhone to spot things like likely snoring, coughing or talking, and the audio never leaves the device that recorded it.
• Where you stopped in each bedtime story, so you can pick up again
• The app's App Lock passcode, Face ID and notification settings
• A copy of your account data in the app, so it works without a connection. Your sign-in details are kept in the iOS Keychain.
• What you enter in the tools on this website, such as its dream journal, which is saved in your browser on that device rather than sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes it.

Community Forum

Posts, replies and votes you make in the community are stored on our servers and shared between the app and this website. Your display name and what you post are visible to everyone in the community. Your email address is stored with your posts but never shown to anyone.

If you share a dream from your journal, the copy you post becomes a public forum post. Your journal entry stays private.

If you report a post or block someone, we're sent the details by email so we can review it.

Purchases

Subscriptions and purchases in the app are handled entirely by Apple. We never see or store your payment details. See Apple's Privacy Policy for how Apple handles purchase information.

On this website, purchases are handled by Stripe, which collects your payment details and, for physical products, your delivery address. Stripe shares the order details with us so we can send your order. We never see your full card number. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.

So that your subscription works on every device you sign in on, we keep a record on our server of whether your account has an active subscription and when it ends. For a subscription bought in the app, your phone sends your App Store receipt to our server, which checks it with Apple. The receipt tells us about your SleepHacker subscription, not your payment details. For a subscription taken on this website, Stripe tells us when it starts, renews or ends. If you delete your account, this record is deleted too, and a subscription taken on this website is cancelled.

Service Providers

We use a few trusted providers to run Sleep Hacker. They handle data only on our behalf:

• Cloudflare, which hosts this website and our servers, and stores and streams the audio for bedtime stories
• Neon, which hosts our database
• Resend, which sends our account emails
• Apple and Google, only if you choose to sign in with them
• Stripe, for purchases on this website

Keeping and Deleting Your Data

We keep your account and synced data for as long as you have an account. You can delete your account at any time in the app's Settings. That permanently deletes your account, everything synced to it, and your posts, replies and votes in the community, and cancels Sign in with Apple access. It can't be undone.

Sleep recording audio stays on your device until you delete it or remove the app. Password reset codes expire after 15 minutes.

Data Security

Everything sent between the app, this website and our servers is encrypted, and your data is stored encrypted on our servers. Passwords are stored only as a secure one-way hash. In the app, you can also turn on App Lock in Settings to require a passcode or Face ID to open it.

Children's Privacy

Sleep Hacker is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continued use of the app or this website after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
